Q: What is the collaboration between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC–Chapel Hill) and Deerfield Management?

A: UNC-Chapel Hill is collaborating with Deerfield, an investment firm dedicated to advancing healthcare, to accelerate the translation of research in UNC-Chapel Hill faculty laboratories into clinical therapeutics. Pinnacle Hill is a Deerfield company that will support UNC-Chapel Hill’s innovative translational research and leverage Deerfield’s expertise in accelerating state-of-the-art drug development.

Pinnacle Hill will fund projects with the aim of establishing novel therapeutics to cure life-altering diseases.

Through Pinnacle Hill, Deerfield has committed up to $65 million in initial funding to support promising UNC-Chapel Hill translational research. Deerfield will provide operational support and may make additional capital investments into spin-off companies that emerge from UNC-Chapel Hill projects and show commercial potential.

Q: Who is eligible to apply?

A: Principal Investigators whose full-time employer is UNC-Chapel Hill or who have a faculty appointment at UNC-Chapel Hill and are subject to UNC-Chapel Hill’s policies regarding the conduct of research and ownership of intellectual property.

Q: How can I apply?

A: To submit an application, please visit the Request for Proposal (RFP) page on the Pinnacle Hill website.

Q: How many calls for proposal are there in a year?

A: There are two calls for proposals each year.

Q: When are RFP applications for 2019 due?

A: Pre-proposal applications will be available starting January 7, 2019 and must be submitted by February 6, 2019 at 11:59PM (ET).

Once the pre-proposal applications have been reviewed, invitations to submit Full Proposal applications will be sent out via email by April 8, 2019. Full proposal applications must be submitted by May 13, 2019 at 11:59PM (ET).

Projects selected for funding will be announced on July 8, 2019.
